Clovelly's 11th Annual
Cow Pond Regatta. by Amy Hitt ![]() .
What do you get when you combine clear blue skies, 5-10 mph winds, five happy dogs, a flock of displaced resident geese, 22 registered boats, a scavenger hunt that led to a box full of candy, and a herd of black angus wondering who had invaded their pasture?
Answer: The 11th annual Cow Pond Regatta
![]() .
We had a spectular showing of sailors from up and down the east coast this year. Reigning champion, Hank Buchanon (NYC, NY), returned to defend his title, and we hosted our second annual juniors race. Because we had more than 20 boats, we split the fleet into two groups. With some guidance from super-hero Dave Ramos, we held 12 round-robin races, scoring 6 of them for the final results. This allowed for one throw-out, which shook things up in the end.
We also had a impressive assortment of chips, dips, hoagies, and beer to keep everyone happy. For the second year in a row, no one's car got stuck in the mud. There were no dog fights. No one fell off the floating dock.
The cows certainly seemed to enjoy the racing, as they leaned over the fence intently watching the events of the day. I suppose they just wanted their pond back. .
