2007 Clovelly's Cow Pond Regatta

by Amy G.-N. Hitt
.
The 2007 Cow Pond Regatta was held Saturday, April 21 with clear blue skies and light, fickle winds. Twenty energized sailors, from Virginia to New Jersey, competed in the 7th annual regatta, complete with a circus-sized tent and our first annual Kids Race.

No one fell in the pond. The food was abundant. Candy, galore. And when a cruise ship, the S.S. Rachel Wagner lost her steerage and drifted aimlessly into the fleet, sailors re-acted quickly and dodged a near disaster. The cows and dogs enjoyed the racing as much everyone else.

We got in ten races for the day and quit when thirst overcame the athletes.
As always, the competition was fierce, with only one point separating 1st and 2nd place, for the newly commissioned Mitch Gibbons-Neff Memorial Trophy.

Kudos to Dave Ramos for an endless supply of crystals and assistance before, during and after the races.

And of course to Tony and Donna Gibbons-Neff for so generously hosting this fun, family event.
