CBMRA 2007 INVITATIONAL REGATTA November 17, 2007 Sandy Point State Park, Annapolis, Maryland
by Ernest Freeland
Dave Ramos had yet another dominating performance to win the 2007 CBMRA Invitational. Ten sailors showed up to near perfect sailing conditions on Saturday morning. It was a little chilly with the temperatures only forecasted to be in the high forties so the competitors had to rely on coffee to provide a little warmth and sugar in the donuts for initial energy. When the sun ducked behind the clouds it sure felt colder then the forecast of the upper forties. Thanks to our scorekeeper Amanda for sticking it out in these less then ideal scorekeeping conditions. The racing got underway a little behind schedule as Dave worked on a few boats to get them up and running. Dave continued to work on boats on and off during the day to keep the sailors on the water. In fact one of the sailors commented wouldn't it be nice if so and so in the Star fleet worked on the boats during the regatta like Dave did. He was of course speaking of the big boat Stars. However with Dave now doing Star 45 R/C sailboats that comment won't be to far from the truth soon at the local Star 45 events. Conditions were near ideal with winds in the eight to ten knot range and a nearly flat sea state. This allowed us to set a windward leeward course that we sailed around twice, starting and finishing in the middle. It was a little shifty at times to keep it fun for all involved. We managed to get in seventeen races between about eleven AM and quarter after three. That time also included a break for a wonder lunch from the deli of Graul's, as well as a few stoppages to get boats back on the water. Dave Ramos had a dominant performance with a total score of seventeen points for seventeen races with two throw outs. Second place was Ernest Freeland followed by James Appel. A great big thank you to Amanda who endured the cold weather to do our scorekeeping and make the lunch run. We plan on hosting the even again in November of 2008. Unfortunately with the Park Service we can only confirm the date about ten weeks in advance. Hopefully we can get a confirmation on the date earlier then ten weeks out.
